Grupo R 2025 Golf Tournament in Furnas

On August 24, 2025, the Furnas Golf Course hosted the Grupo R Golf Tournament, an initiative promoted by Verdegolf and sponsored by Grupo R.
Nineteen teams of four players and nine teams of just two players took part, with a total of 94 entrants competing in the tournament in the “Modified Texas Scramble” format, Stableford, 18 holes, following the rules approved by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the local rules of the course.
The program began early, with the distribution of cards at 8:00 a.m., followed by the start of the ShotGun tournament at 9:30 a.m. After a morning of intense competition, the participants gathered at 3:00 p.m. for lunch, the announcement of the results, and the award ceremony. The day ended on a relaxed note with a raffle at 4:30 p.m., generating even more excitement among those present.
The winners of the Grupo R 2025 Tournament were as follows:

• 1st place Gross Teams: Fantastic 4 with 70 points, composed of players Luis Eleutério/Carlos Comédias and Alberto Machado/José Machado
• 1st place Net Teams: Azores Gourmet with 92 points, composed of players Vitor Cruz/Paulo Santos and Tiago Cabral/Franco Costa
• 1st place Gross Doubles: João Lima/Filipe Paz Ferreira with 43 points
• 1st place Net Doubles: Américo Nunes/Jorge Costa with 48 points

The Group R was also represented by its own team, formed by players Saúl Silva/Angélica Garça and David Cohen/Diogo Pereira, which came in 5th place in the Team Net category with 85 points.
The Group R, together with Verdegolf, thus reinforces its commitment to supporting sport and promoting events that foster camaraderie, team spirit, and the development of golf in the Azores. We were delighted to see the high number of entries for this friendly tournament, which undoubtedly reflects the community’s strong support for this type of initiative and the professionalism of Verdegolf, which made this event a success.
